Batman: unburied

why a fandom that dissects everything needs content built by someone inside it.

Batman Unburied Season 2 needed talent content built for a fanbase that dissects everything, casting choices, line deliveries, easter eggs. I’ve been a Batman fan since I was a kid, so I knew exactly which beats would spark real conversation, not just views.

I art directed the talent capture, briefing lighting, framing, and color direction ahead of each shoot and iterating with the Spotify team, then reviewed the delivered footage and selected what moved to editorial. The read on the fandom shaped every choice, from what we briefed to what we kept.

Art Direction · Visual Direction · Editorial Selects

The capture plan wasn’t one generic ask across the cast. General bits any actor could do, rapid-fire favorite-Batman-moment prompts, hero-or-villain match-ups, sat next to bespoke concepts built for specific actors: an outfit-breakdown “get ready with me” for Colman Domingo, a blind-guess game pairing Gina Rodriguez against decades of Gotham’s women.

I set the visual direction for lighting, framing, and color on every setup, working back and forth with the Spotify team ahead of each shoot. Once footage came in, I reviewed the dailies and chose what got passed to the editor, decisions built on knowing exactly what a Batman fan would replay and argue about.

the formats

Format Development · Talent Direction

Different corners of the same fandom want different things from the same actors, so no single format could do that job alone.

Behind-the-scenes imagery was utilized for fan-first assets. We tapped into the Batman Unburied community and placed their tweets over photos of the Batman Unburied cast recording their lines.

04

batman forever

The cast for Batman Unburied was stacked, and we wanted to get the audience hyped for the new season. We made the most out of our time with the cast and created cast-specific carousels intended to bridge the gap between the talent and the community.

The Throughline

i know what a fandom will share before i make it.

fan knowledge as creative advantage

I knew what would get clipped because I’m in the fandom myself, not guessing from the outside.

one brief, six formats

GRWM, trivia, debate bait, quickfire, and fan-sourced content, each built for a different way a fan actually engages, not one video repeated six ways.

proof travels when the community sees itself in it

The bat-booth treatment turned real fan reactions into the campaign’s own asset, and it’s part of why anticipation climbed from 46 comments to 507.
